I shall refrain from wondering too much about your motives in suddenly
publicising the above - I don't remember you ever recommending a book
before - just a couple of days after you learnt that my own book
entitled 'Grebes of the World' has just been published. However, I'm
grateful for the opportunity to say that my book is available from
www.nhbs.com and other suppliers.

It is a very different book from the above, being a large-format
volume
of 24 stunning plates by Chris Rose, one of our leading wildlife
artists, who has observed grebes across the world and who suggested
the
project to a publisher. While I haven't seen quite all the species
Chris
has, the publisher was kind enough to ask me to write an accompanying
text in the form of a series of essays, rather than follow a strict
'handbook' format, together with a longish introduction covering all
the
main aspects of grebes' lives. Appendices contain the basic biological
information about each species, together with explanations of the
derivations of the English and scientific names, something of a hobby
of
mine.

It will indeed look very nice indeed on anyone's shelves - if you can
afford it :-))
