  1. I was wondering if it is completely crazy to fly home on the day of
the race. I want to run the St. Croix marathon but would have to fly
home that evening (work obligation the next day). The race is at 5 am
the flight at 4 pm. Do you think this is possible or am I asking for
    trouble.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Without knowing absolutely anything about how you handle or have handled
such things in the past, I'd say it's possible. Even if you finish by 10
a.m., you still have 6 hours before the flight. You just have to make
sure that you stay plenty hydrated in those hours as well as on the
flight, especially if it's a long one. I've found stretching/massaging
the legs to be useful in preventing soreness the next day. I'd be even
more diligent about this if I knew a long flight lay ahead of me.
Another thing that might be helpful is to wear open-toe sandals on the
    plane instead of closed shoes.

And if you're like me after a marathon you'll have to be sure you stay
awake until you're safely on the plane. :-) At times I've almost
fallen asleep just driving home from long races.
