Long story short, I forgot to pack running socks the other day, and rather than go back home, I ran in cotton... I have really nasty blisters on each arch. I ran with our running club today, 6 miles. Beforehand I put Band-Aid brand blister cushions on the blisters. After the 6 miles, I knew something wasn't right, and found the pad had not stayed put, was half stuck to the blister but halfway falling off, and had actually doubled the blister's size.
What can I do to speed the healing of these blisters? And what can I put on them that will stay in one place during runs? I thought maybe the blister pad plus athletic tape around the arch of the foot, but I'm not sure if that will interfere with anything.

Damn, Betsy, that's a good one. Guaranteed to produce significant traffic (and word count, if that's how you are scoring these threads).
But, in all earnestness, let me be the first one to utter the magic words - "duct tape".
But I bet you already knew that. A good lawyer (or a troll) never asks a question without knowing the answer.

Why are you calling me a troll?
I had heard that duct tape was the thing to use, but I was sort of afraid of it sticking to the blister itself. Won't it just rip it off when you take the tape off?

It has to do with spades.

Yeah, that's been covered too. You put a piece of gauze over the blister itself.

Betsy
To speed the healing, if they are thin blisters, try some calendula cream or something with aloe. It depends how deep the blisters are as to how I treat them. Are they popped or is there fluid in them. Letting them dry out on their own is the best I think. After ultras and trail races I've had quite nasty blisters on my toes. I use something sterile to let the fluid out if it doesn't on it's own after a day or 2, then let them dry over a few days. When the skin gets hard enough I cut them off piece by piece. Some are so thick that the whole toenail sometimes comes off, along with 3-4mm of skin. With more experience and better choices of shoes they rarely get this bad anymore.
For actual running, Mark's duct tape over gauze might work. OTOH if the blisters are thin, Vaseline with a soft liner sock under your regular ones might work. There are dozens of answers and no perfect solution.

That's what I do. Be sure the foot is squeaky clean before taping, and do it snug but not tourniquet tight.
I don't use duct tape -- the grey color clashes with my white socks :-)

Can lead to bad things for your case, such as: "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit!"

Not sure what that means, Dan. What exactly is my "case"?
BTW, quite obviously, that question about the glove should never have been asked. Just illustrates my point -- unless you know the answer (i.e., "will the glove fit?"😉, don't ask the question.

Mmm, running in cotton socks caused blisters... Never had a problem with cotton, unless the shoes or boots I was wearing were new or ill-fitting.

The advise sounds good. Maybe I should try it instead of lancing blisters... duct tape - the handy man's secret weapon...

You know, I came here with a sincere desire to become a better runner. Perhaps my questions are too ignorant, or have been covered a gazillion times before, and those of you who have been here for awhile get sick of answering the same old questions. I understand that. There are other things that I am really knowledgeable about, and I get tired of answering "dumb" questions too. I apologize for not doing enough research before asking another question. I have really appreciated the honest and blunt advice, and I believe I am better because of it. Maybe I'm not thick-skinned enough, but I sort of wish that if you don't like what I am asking that you would ignore me, rather than saying something just to be mean.

No labyrinthine multi-tiered meaning, Mark, just a funny example of what can happen. We're just trying to help out where we can.

I *did* say "a good lawyer".
But wait a doggone minute....you asked what that means, and therefore you (as a good lawyer or troll or both) must know the answer!

I know some people use duct tape but that stuff is damn hard to get off especially tender areas, even without a blister, such as the arch area. I would suggest some inch or so wide Johnson&Johnson sport tape. It holds just a well in this case and a lot easier to remove. In my trail races I cover the bottoms of my feet with J&J as preventive. The layer of tape against my foot and prevents the grit that gets into my shoes and socks from causing blisters and it weathers stream crossings.
And but some Vaseline under the gauze under the tape.Tape yes, duct tape, be damn careful, better on windows and doors. 😉

Ignore his sarcasm and the troll crack was not called for and you don't have any history. Now Pak* is a total trolling SIB([censored] for brains) . Yes, there are a set of questions that get asked frequently and I guess one can google their brains out prior but the hell with that. If you looking something with only one answer such as the area of a triangle then google. If not then ask away. As corny as it sounds there are no dumb questions but a lot of dumb answers. 😉
There are many times that those often asked questions generates dialog and additional, newer, different replies are offered and of some value.

For the few that I get, I found keeping a layer of Vaseline keeps the area from drying out, cracking and in general pissing off and slowing the healing process plus the discomfort if you still trying to run.
Vaseline also works wonders for chaffed areas. These hot sports are loudly noted in the shower after a long/run or race. There are always spots that you miss in pre-race/run preparation. 😉

Ah yes, the expected "indignation" post. And it might actually ring true if only you displayed an inclination to actually follow any of the advice you receive here instead of doing it your own way regardless of what is posted in response.
My impression is that you seem to take a lot of delight in starting threads that ask questions designed to generate maximum traffic. That's a definition of a troll. A lot of well-meaning folks get fooled by your "ingenue" type questions and trip all over themselves trying to give you genuine advice, but the act's wearing a little thin.
BTW, I'm not being mean, just calling it as I see it. If you don't care for my responses, ignore them.

It's more expensive but I've found my answer to relieving chafing agony in the shower is to use any variety of Aveeno body wash. It's soap free and is actually soothing instead of the agonizing pain that soap creates when applied to chafed skin.

Of what? Trollism? Sure she does, IMO. And one of the better ones. Even gets periodically "indignant" at the appropriate times. In his old gty days, paki used be that good too.

And some people need to call out trolls just a little more than others. How is that 'chest pounding' and 'knuckle dragging'? Those indulgences are best reserved for race finish lines (see my Tour de Pain thread for an example of unabashed chest pounding and knuckle dragging).

Oh My God. I am not a troll. What would it take for you to understand that I am a real and sincere person wanting to run?

I have taken quite a bit of advice here. I don't get how you figure I haven't. I am new to running, and I've made several mistakes, but I'm learning from them.
