You look pretty fresh, for a half-ultra out of the way ...

Looks like Asics GT-2110. These seem to work pretty well on non-technical
trails. Not sure how they do in mud. But I guess you know now.

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Doug where he wasn't smiling.
Either he's always smiling or he's very aware of the camera.

Now, *that* looks like a trail running picture 🙂

Those were my walking around shoes.
I didn't wear them in the race. I wore Asics trails attack, they were pretty
good in the mud.

I wore GT-2100s on the escarpment trail and though they're not that grippy
on rocks, I had no falls or problems. It's all in the way you run and
depends on your experience of what will grip and what won't grip. The main
reason I'll probably stick with this line (now GT-2120s which are lighter)
is that they come in wide widths and fit great. Most other fancy shoes
specifically designed for the terrain that I'd like to try just aren't wide
enough, or I have to wear size 13 and the fit is weird. For example, La
Sportiva has some nice models and grippy rubber, but no wide widths.

My 2110's worked very well with screws! Got some interesting looks when
I took them off at the finish and dropped them directly in the garbage.

Good catch Phil, and the only shot where I don't look 90 years old.
There are others that make me look like a vertical cadaver. Notice where
I and the guy behind me are running, on the side of the trail where we
could get some traction.

It's just early in the race and I'm happy for the stream to get the mud
off my shoes. There are other shots where I look like [censored] and I'm not
posting them. I'm working on a photo portfolio to do ads for Depends and
I must look comfortably wet. 😉
