  1. Five and a half months after fracture of fibula:

    Mon 0
Tue Run 3.5 miles Walk 0.4
    Wed 0
Thu Run 2.9 miles Walk 0.8
    Fri core, weights
Sat Run 3.8 miles Walk 0.5
    Sun Walk 5.8, hills

Total 10.2 miles running, 7.5 miles walking
    "Time On Legs" 4:54:26
No HR %'s this week -- I need to get a new HRM sending unit battery,
or clean it, or something. Tuesday I got minimum of 32 and max of 240
    before I flat-lined! =-0

Goals: continue with three "run" days per week (that's in quotes in
present company because of my 10:55 to 13:40 pace per mile of late),
    add one more walk day (aiming for 5-1/2 hours T.O.L.) through April;
participate (go there, do that, get the T-shirt) in local 4-mile race
(my son is doing the 8); hoping for good performance in 5K July 4.

This is a very slow process of recovery. I am being as patient as I
can, knowing that to rush things is to risk one step forward and too
many steps back. Saturday morning's effort was discouraging and
joyless -- until I noticed something more than my dead legs and poor
form. I noticed the morning world, the wildlife, and the birds
especially. What started me running in 2004 might have been my
health, my ever-increasing body weight -- but what has kept me running
is largely a sense of being in contact with the world, the seasons,
the critters. So while the walk/run/walk itself was malcoordinated
hell for over 50 minutes, in retrospect it takes on some merit beyond
its value as a step in athletic recovery of an old guy so recently on
    crutches.

    Peace,

Are you sure it's not just a bad belt-skin contact - either dirty or not
enough moisture? Mine goes through some weird gyrations sometimes,
although if it's going to stick at 0bpm, it's usually at the start.

My IR interface seems to be getting flaky lately and having trouble
downloading the exercises. It sees the # of exercises, but then chokes
before it actually starts the exercise data download. If it starts, it
    usually finishes.

    Well put.

I had a planned recovery week this week and combining about 5 inches new
snow with donating blood a couple days before, I just backed off and
explored a new trail, did some more xc skiing, another snowshoe hike,
etc. Watched the birds, wildlife signs, intense sun on incredibly white
snow (after all the dirty snow for the last couple months). A squirrel
came out to watch me remove some dead branches. The quiet down in one of
the bowls was almost deafening after the wind storms we've had. And the
temperatures are getting closer to +20F than to 0F for at least half the
    day now.

Odd you should mention that... last night I opened up the battery to
check for possible moisture leakage into the unit -- all clean inside,
and the battery gave me voltage on the meter, so put back together,
washed the outside (dish soap, water, and toothbrush ! ) and as Chico
Marx would say Now sheeza worka real good. I always moisten unit and
self with water when I put it on. Never had *this* kind of contact
problem before. I do notice I get a "240" reading when I pass under
660V 3 phase power lines at times -- and there I am without my foil
    hat, too!

Thanks Dot. By the way, the Saturday adventure included sighting (2)
Caspian Terns and (2) Red Knots that (I think) are heading your
direction on their way from Baja California or points even further
    south. Ah, Spring! :-)

They should take their time if they're expecting green when they get
here. 😉 That's a way's off yet, although I think we should start seeing
    above freezing temps soon.
