Is there any agency that hasn't been severely compromised?

FDA, EPA, Defense, State, Justice, FEMA, GSA, World Bank...

Less than two more years, and hopefully this national nightmare will be
over.

Getting back to the food safety issue, there was an interesting op-ed column
in the Washington Post today about the lack of any real inspection and
tracing of food ingredients. The column mentions that most of the world's
vitamins are now manufactured in China under questionable conditions,
resulting in such things as vitamins with hazardous lead levels. According
to the column, no vitamin C is manufactured in the USA anymore, and 80% of
the world's supply comes from China.

Fortunately for government officials, I'm not president. Here's what I'd
like to see: Authorize an agency with the same technical abilities as the
NSA. Its assignment: Total surveillance of all government employees who are
in a position to be bribed. If their purchases seem out of synch with their
legal income, they get a "visit", KGB-style. Toss their homes, search all
their paper records, haul them off to spooky places for questioning, no due
process. No more private "energy policy" meetings whose attendees are
considered a secret (a la George Bush's crime in that regard).
