Dieting is going to kill that poor girl. The healthiest thing is for
her to be allowed to eat as much as she wants and let her body find its
right weight. That is what nature intended.--

Sadly, we don't know what the whole story is. She may have medical
problems why she is so large.Jeff

Apparently nature hates this little girl and is trying to kill her.

I looked around a bit, and apparently the girl is now 9 and weighs
less than 150 pounds -- still big, but not as astoundingly so. She's
had to have several surgeries on her legs to correct bone problems
caused by the weight gain, but she's able to get around.Bizby

There was a show on Discovery health about a little boy who no matter how
litttle or how much they fed him he gained weight (at the same rate). They
finally after several years figured out he had a rare disease and are trying
to figure out how to counter it. The mother was frustrated because she knew
that people thought whe was overfeeding and abusing the child - which she
wasn't. -

It really irritated me how "The Insider" dragged out this story for the
shock and pity value, when the girl obviously has a classic case of
Prader-Willi. -

Prader-Willi.I only saw the video clip in the original link. I was horrified that there
was an automatic assumption of parental neglect or abuse. -

There are cases of childhood obesity that have nothing to do with how
much the child is eating, and instead have to do with certain
conditions. I hate to see people making fun of her like in those
dancing videos and then assume she gained 200 pounds in 2 years due to
eating alone. Haven't you ever seen those stories about mothers who
were run the hoops and threatened when all their babies consumed were
bottles but they were extremely overweight? I'd like to hear the why
she is like this before jumping to conclusions. She could be self-
comforting herself at this point with food because once she became
obese, there was nothing else to do but sit and be bored. kwim? -

That's a relief. It must mean she has received the the type of help
she needed, no matter what that was. -

I believe the ecstacy kid video is WAAAAAY more severe than this, and
yes, those involved in that should be shot. No telling what that did
to that poor child's brain. Thank goodness she survived. At what cost,
who knows, but she survived -- even the car trip on the floor of the
damn car. Those idiot people. -

drugs.
even w/o that, I think the child needs to be taken from the home .... she is
a beautiful child and it sucks that she is going to have to grow up w/ those
idiot people. -

It really irritated me how "The Insider" dragged out this story for the
shock and pity value, when the girl obviously has a classic case of
Prader-Willi.Why do you say that? I didn't see any indication of mental retardation or
short stature. Hypotonia is hard to judges given her mobility restrictions,
but it must have required a fair amount of strength for her to drag herself
around the floor as she did in the video. In fact, the only feature of
Prader-Willi syndrome she obviously presents with is obesity.Quoted message said:
