Starchy foods are binding. Fat and fiber foods are laxative. So Rosie's suggestion made a lot of sense to add burger to encourage the dog to eat the rice while limiting the fat. I'd add the suggestion that it should be polished white rice, not whole grain, to limit the fiber.

Diarrhea can be life-threatening due to electrolyte loss; it's one of the most common causes of death in infants worldwide.
I don't know if it's as critical in dogs, but even if not, a dog left home while you're at work isn't going to be able to let himself out if his need becomes critical. I doubt most people would want to wait it out.
