  1. A recumbent bicycle, a stationary machine at most gyms. Its very helpful to
ride it instead of traditional machines, because you sit in a seat and pedal
much like a hotcycle for a toddler, and thus overweight people don't hurt
their undercarriage on the standard bikes. It's not an easier bike, its
gentler to your...bits down under 🙂

    This thing: http://www.ransbikes.com/SXP07.htm

It's fun to ride. A different experience on two wheels, for me, at least.

I was at the LBS has November and happened to ask why they didn't sell any.
Turns out, the other LBS here has a guy who has a trailer out back and he
sells tandems and recumbents and trikes. So, on a whim, I showed up there
and took a few for a spin. As variety is truly the spice of life, I decided
I could own two bikes. Why not?

After I get some serious miles on this one, I'll consider whether to get
    bike number 3.

IMO, ways of getting people to have fun while exercising is NEVER OT.

    🙂

My understanding (from personal experience and some reading) is that
the gym version isn't very good for Speed or HI Intervals, because you
rock your hips in a way that's kind of cruel on your lower back. The
gym at my apartment complex has them and no uprights, and man do I
hate doing sprints on them. The hard effort creates a rocking that is
just not fun on the back over the long haul. Definitely not gentler on
    my down under bits.

    2. road bike
    3. recumbent (mine is a Cycle Genius--the black one. I forget the model
    name)
    4. a semi-recumbent
    5. a Bike Friday

Soitenly! Why, just today I went for a 4 mile hike. I call anything a hike
that is overland. If I walk on pavement, it's a walk. This was a hike.
Before today, I thought owls were nocturnal....

Bike Friday? Is that a foldable? That's an interesting thought.

Do you still ride all of these? That's my issue....I don't want so many that
    they start collecting dust!

Yeah. I took it on a trip. It folds into its own suitcase. when you get to
your destination, you unfold it and ride away, towing the suitcase behind
you (which has morphed into a bike trailer).

I've gotta admit I hardly ride the mountain bike and barely ride the little
semi-recumbent (it was a gift and is so heavy it's almost like a toy).

Yeah, how does that go again? "I love to go a-wandering along the beaten
path, and when I go, I love to sing, my backpack on my back...."

Pat in TX where we have really grumpy owls.

Well, that's the spirit! But, bicycles are like arrows in a quiver.
Different ones for different purposes. I am hoping you didn't really mean
"10 sp." I got my old Schwinn in 1984 and it had 21 "speeds" then. My new
one, in 2001, has 27 "speeds." If you truly have a "10 speed" bicycle, it's
time to buy a new one!

  10. my 10 speed 'road bike' is fast and narrow tired,
and aluminum, and very road worthy, and very light

only i'm older and NOT so road worthy :-)

i prefer the big fat tires on the ? 21 speed
    mountain bike instead

kidlet can have the 'road bike' if he ever decides
to get one..... and yes, it's WAY old ! ! !

Well, my point was that if your road bike only has 10 speeds, it is older
than the one I bought in 1984! Time for a new bike. BTW: we have several
people (at least a dozen) in their 70's in our riding club and 2 over 80
years old. All on road bikes....

Careful there, Zoulie, pelvic rotation compromised. Can you say leg
press? Can you say "bad for Roger"?
