Clan Ranger went the full distance and we'll be enjoying a smoked ham with a maple glaze, spiral cut, mashed Kennington potatoes, roasted asparagus, spinach for salad, and a fresh loaf of sweet french bread and honey-butter.
Daughter-unit Beta was first up at 0530 to scope out where the Easter Bunny had set out the eggs. She relayed that intell to her sister, Alpha, who in gave Spawn her orders.
Momentary excitement: Damned if the Easter Bunny didn't disturb a nursery of freshly-hatched alligator lizards during his rounds last night... There's nothing quite like lifting over a planter box to see the ground squirm, snake-like, in every direction. There was a time they'd've all been quickly and efficiently displayed in a capture case before they'd known what was looking down, not just the sleepiest. http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/pages/e.c.coerulea.html
I'll post a picture of him later today. I might even get lucky and find the rest.

Chez moi, it is to be swiss steak (BIL has religious issues with ham and the whole family, 'cepting me, hates lamb), mashed taters with the gravy from the ss, roasted asparagus ($1.27/lb this morning!!), homemade dinner rolls with buddah, and pineapple upside down cake for dessert. <snip alligator lizard story>
Keep the lizards in Marin, heh. I gots enough problems with tree rats .... which, come to think of it, would solve the lizard problem, if I had it....

They're touched, and not in a good way! Don't like lamb or ham! Slap 'em 'side they heads with a bone-in Kentucky Aged piece o' pork!

I was so there 'til you said dessert. <sigh> A perfect meal ruined by pineapple!

Tell that to Patricia Krenwinkel, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, and Leslie Van Houten.
Steve. I know Barry much better than you do, and he is not efficient or effective enough to be a serial killer OR a mass murderer. In the first case he'd probably try to choke people on Cheerios and in the second just thinking about putting forth all that effort would make him tired.

How do you spiral cut mashed potatoes? And why would you, Ranger? Why?
Step one, mound mash in a bowl. Step two, take a razor-sharp knife and cut into the mound, while spinning bowl and allowing the knife to circle deep into the mound. This makes the mashed potatoes even more mouth-wateringly tender than the more traditional, yet simple, mashing can make them.

Hey, it also exposes more surface area for the absorption of butter or gravy. If you didn't know that, you didn't grow up in my house!

But only if the knife is held at less than a 90 degree angle to the surface of the mound. So there!
Degrees? Degrees? We don' need no stinkin' degrees!

We postponed Easter dinner until today (Monday) because my wife's sister came to visit for a few days. We had a small leg of lamb. I hope that it is enough. We all all lamb lovers. We have some small potatoes to roast along with carrots and parsnip, and will have some steamed asparagus. For dessert we will have meringues with a fresh fruit salad and ice cream.
