Hate is when they're of a cookie sale or some such rot, and you can't have any!

When I hear the garage door opening, I like to open the oven door for
a few seconds, or lift the lid on the pot, whichever's appropriate, so
my wife will smell the good smells when I open the kitchen door for
her.

Having my husband come home from work with a special goodie, usually some
form of seafood, a really good cheese, a decent loaf of bread or
asparagus-sometimes all of the above. When he does this, he's got this
giant, slap-happy grin on his face and makes a whole presentation out of it.
"A gift for my love...." He'll place the shopping bag down, open it up,
and proudly hand me each item saying, "For you." He always gives me
something I love to eat and it makes me feel good that he was thinking of
me. To me, that's love and romance. :~)

I can't believe someone baked cookies for an outside event and didn't
put aside even two for you. That's not love, it's betrayal.

When I am totally [censored] at the S.O. I'm not talking piddly [censored],
I'm talking major [censored] at him. When I walk into the house and
my nostrils are assailed by the delicious aroma of a pot roast in the
oven. Yummmm... Oh, the house is usually spotless too 😉

Yep, he's a keeper! I got flowers, Phillips Maryland
Backfin Crab Cakes, wine and the freshest, most
wonderful chocolate cake for my birthday. BUT I
must admit, a flood of gifts and flowers from others
probably awakened his sense of competition, lol!
(He is not usually that demonstrative, heh heh.)You win because unless it is my birthday, that never
happens. Bless you both.
Gawd... you wimmens have it made. I get pot roast for dinner and some
Black Forest mulch as a gift 😉 *sigh* it's love to me.

And the other thing is: his birthday comes right after
mine!! So if he is especially good, he figures he will
clean up even more than usual!! 😄

If you were my neighbor, Michael, I would bring over one of Henry Mitchell's
books on gardening. Might be "Essential Earthman" or "One Man's Garden".
Anyway, there's a chapter about gifts for gardeners. You'd love it. Bag of
manure, a roll of really good twine, stuff like that.
If you're one of the few remaining Americans with a library card, go find
his books. I think you'd really enjoy them. He was the garden writer for the
Washington Post. Each chapter is one of his newspaper columns, so they're
quick. But, the man was a friggin' genius.
Love is spending 15 minutes making sure one anchovie is made completely
invisible in a sauce where the taste is required, but the victim of the
dinner doesn't like anchovies.

Well said! Whatever the heck happened to Quality Control??? Good
grief! They could be selling inferior merchandise and not even realize
it!

YOU GOT BLACK FOREST MULCH!!
I would love that, especially if it came with a rent-free
strong back to spread it. That's goooooood stuff.

I started using Black Forest a couple of years ago. I love the stuff. I
used to use the pine bark mulch but found the Black Forest much easier to
work with. Besides, it breaks down much faster than the pine bark mulch.
I'm not supposed to lift much but, the Black Forest is so fine, I can drag
the bags around like dead bodies. I've got cyprus mulch on the paths and
around the beds bordering the side of the house. I've read, or heard, it's
good to repel insects.

I'll have to find the book and take a look see.

I do have a library card with a local branch a few blocks from here. I'm
going to see if they have them. I spend most of my book $ on cookbooks,
biographies and good fiction. I've relied on my Missouri Botanical Garden
membership for most of my gardening advice and ideas. Thanks... I think it
is time to branch out 😉

Oh mi! I almost got the vapors reading this. Barb, you are right on the
money. QC is an essential part of sending anything off to a bake sale etc.
One must taste... several pieces of product before sending it off 😉
Michael <- has done Barb's brownines justice... twice.
