I bought a quart of coconut oil to try and duplicate the recipe
for a sauce from a local dive. This wasn't the missing mystery
    ingredient.

I know it coconut oil makes for great popcorn, and I plan to make
some shallot oil for some SE asian recipes.

What else is coconut oil especially good for?

Well, not exactly what you're looking for, but long ago I was stationed
in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan women used it on their hair as a hair
dressing. (They had beautiful hair, too.)

Ah, memories of vacations at the beach with the kids, surrounded
by people marinading or basting themselves with coconut oil!
    Smelled like a cookie factory.

Coconut oil is usually an ingredient in suntan lotion. At least
when I was younger. I loved the smell of the stuff.

My daughter brought back some vanilla essence from the Dominican. Now I
know what that elusive flavour is --- coconut. Weird. Not a bad weird,
but strange since it's meant to be vanilla.
