nice frame from a well established brand. reasonable price for a for a
new 853 with carbon stays and fork. if it is your size, go for it.
Jamis is a well known brand even if the two clowns above tell you
otherwise after waking up early with a hangover from too much cheap
tequila.

i have no comment on this specific frame, but i note that it's a thin
wall steel tube, and that it doesn't appear to use oversize tube
diameter. on that basis, i say be very careful. my personal experience
with large [60cm +] frames built of this material is that they tend to
have a problem with shimmy. although strong, thin wall steel tends to
be quite elastic offering decreased torsional rigidity and thus just the
the kind of increased flex of which shimmy is a symptom.

for myself therefore, i would not buy. i would instead look for a frame
with a larger diameter tubeset. i have a couple of large diameter tube
aluminum frames which are both superior in shimmy to any steel frame
i've ever had - and i've had [have] some nice ones!

if you were looking at this frame because of potential for a cheap deal,
i think you'll have much better luck with one of the nashbar [aluminum]
frames. i've been commuting on one for about 5 years now. cheap.
nasty. takes the abuse. impossible to shimmy!

Yeah it kind of doesn't make much sense does it. It would have limited
use as a commuting / touring bike, but with a steel frame it would be
too heavy to be a good racer.

I don't know, I think it's actually rather pretty. If I were lighter and
faster, I'd consider getting one myself.

Kind of reminds me of a Merlin Cielo--the Cielo has carbon fiber frame
tubes in Ti lugs.

I'm thinking of this because I like my old 80's era columbus bike, but
it's heavy, and missing lots of paint now. While I have no experience
riding aluminum (or anything other than steel actually), I like the
way the steel bike rides and figure this might be a way to get that
with a little less weight.

noted, but regarding the "like the way it rides" sentiment, you need to
try the other stuff for informed comparison. my aluminum bianchi is a
gorgeous ride - not harsh at all. in fact, it's considerably less harsh
than my steel della santa, only with greater torsional stiffness. don't
get me wrong - i like steel, but aluminum is better.

and i'm serious about the shimmy thing. i spent a year off the bike
thanks to a cracked femoral neck. the frame was standard size [30mm
down tube] thin wall steel just like the subject, and it shimmied like a
sob. larger diameter steel helps [della santa and a 36mm diameter down
tube], but the bianchi and its 47mm's have the d*s beat.
