I watched it at Fluck and it sure looks cool, if ya put a offroad tire
its a muni, put a street tire on it its a road bike. 😉

But how do the cranks attach to the hub when there is no crankbolt on
the side?

If it's like the normal schlumpf, the crank bolt is under the shift
button.

Too bad no one got to ride the KH/schlumpf hub at FLUCK. 🙁
But if they are like the normal Schlumpf hubs only stronger they will

genbirch - it is indeed true that a standard Schlumpf hub can be fitted
in the Nimbus 36" frame. Roger Davies has such a unicycle. There is a
hole in the frame which the torque arm can be fitted to. You'll need to
bend in the the frame, as its designed to be used with a wide hub.

I got myself a Schlumpf 36" frame with the intention of building it up
as a geared 36er. However I didn't have an Airfoil rim at the time, so
I built it up as a 29er. I found the frame to be horrid (way too wide
at the crown - touches the back of your legs with every pedal stroke!)
so I cut it down to a 29er. The older Schlumpf 36" frames (Nimbus
II-style) were good but are no longer available.

Thanks Tony. I have an email in to Roger Davies but I didn't get it off
until he had departed for MUT. Do you know if it is a favorite of his
(?) - has he been using it in the MUT?
Sounds like this is one of the *two* best ways to go then (Schlumpf +
Nimbus 36 -or- KH/Schlumpf + anyoldframe). The question I'm going over
in my head is whether or not there is an advantage in waiting for the
KH/Schlumpf for the better shifter button, beefier/wider hub and the
frame adaptability. Will this 'knurled bearing thing' be a panacea
gearing uni's?

Hey,

Last weekend I snapped the ISIS axle on my KH/Schlumpf hub, going off a
large gap/drop on a Northshore trail. In other words, doing riding
that I never really intended the geared uni to be for, but really good
for testing.

Too bad but actually pretty informative.

ISIS has 2 different bolt standards that can be used in the axle, 12mm
(what the Moment hub uses) and 15 mm (=thinner axle sidewalls, lighter
and weaker).

We had used the lighter 15 mm standard on the geared hub because we
didn't think that the axle would be the limiting factor for strength.
It turns out that the axle broke before either the gears failed or the
knurled "lever arm" turned inside the bearing housing. So although
it's a pain that it failed, this actually was good to know.

Although the shifting rod has to go inside the hole in the spindle, it
looks like it possible to use the stronger 12 mm version in the
production model.

glad I can't afford a new unicycle yet, I'll save for the geared hub.

but I know people can break anything =). My goal is to produce a
versatile hub that works for all-around muni and crossover to road
riding, but for rides involving purely Freeride/Technical Downhill the
regular Moment hub would still be lighter and stronger.
