Looks like the latest high-power LEDs may prove to be useful for high-power headlights. The lights on this site are obviously a bit home grown, but I quite like that and they will probably develop quickly (especially with some useful input from uk.rec.cycling).

At the York rally a cyclist had some REALLY bright LED lights on a bike. They ran off a dynohub - as these generate a.c. the lights flashed at slow speeds. He said they were the latest industry grade LED technology and was considering production. The units he had built looked alot better than the ones on this site. Did anybody else talk to him? did you get a name or website address?

I'm currently developing an LED light based around the Luxeon 5 Watt emitter and and interested the sort of run time you would be interested in and max weight? Also what sort of beam pattern you would be interested in. I'm aiming to produce a spot (~10 degrees) and a flood (eliptical beam maybe 40 x 10 degrees) Would you want the light to be easily removable so that you can swop it between bikes? What do you guys think? I've seen the Martin jones light and hope I can do better LOL If not... Well I'll have some nice lights for night time off roading :-)
