I'm looking for a bike for my daily commute, it is about 4.5 miles each way (15km per day) to work, along roads. The roads aren't great, there's an occasional pot hole and a few kerbs I have to cycle off.
My budget is £500, I will only have to pay about £250 of this due to a UK tax initiative to make everyone green.
The commute is almost entirely flat, over the 4.5 miles I probably change altitude 10ft or so. There's only a couple of junctions too, so I am generally in a straight line at a constant speed.
I want to be able to leave my bike outside in the rain, I don't have anywhere to store it. I don't want it to require much maintenance, and I want it to get me to work quickly. 🙂
My current bike is a MTB with "non-nobbly" tyres, if that means much! The wheels get bent pretty quickly and rub on the brakes, which is a real pain. I don't want to have to fix the bike every weekend.
