Hey all, I'm about 5'11" and 135lbs. I am looking for a new road bike because I really want to get into the sport. I have biked all my life, but not seriously nor on a road bike. My budget would be no more than 1,000$. What is a good beginner road bike that will last me for awhile? I was thinking of the Trek Alpha Aluminum 1000 which is I think 710$. What do you think?

And I also will want to get into racing, would the 1000 be better for that?

I just picked up a Giant OCR-2 for $829. I've only had it for about 3 weeks now, but I love this bike!!!
The best advise I can give you is to go to your LBS and ride as many different bikes that are in your price range as you can. I even went to (3) different bike shops that sell different brands to find the one that was best for me. I must have road (6) different brands of bikes within my price range (under $1000) before I made my final decision.
Good luck,
Tom
