Best rim for a hubgear/coaster brake

For better or worse, few people measure rim widths that way, and many
seem to be unaware that anyone does. Outside width at the top is the
norm.

Presuming you'll never want to use rim brakes, one of the 460-470g 9'r
disc rims like Velocity VXCs or Sun DS2s are what you're looking for.
Both of those come in 36; I don't know if any other similar ones do.
Uncoated Velocities are about 15g lighter than coated. If you do want
the option of rim brakes, everything starts at around 480 or just a
bit less. Velocity Dyads would be good in that case.

Alex DM18 or Adventurer. About 600g each. $20/25, and 17.5/18.5mm
inside diameter. 100g heavier than a cr-18, but really strong for
commuting--and you won't notice the weight with a smooth running tire,
just that the wheel won't need any attention after being built right.

Sun CR-18. Inexpensive; round; durable; strong;
ordinary looking, but shiny; perfect for the tire size
you want.

Alex Adventurers would be my first choice. They're $20-25 per rim.

Salsa Delgado Cross are also very nice, but more expensive, like
$35-40 per rim.
