Felt a lot better this weekend as I headed out to ride Centennial cone.
It was a very nice morning, and I figured I would take a nice
leisurely paced ride by myself. I started at the newest part of the
park (Mayhem Gulch Trail). It was actually a very enjoyable switchback
climb that I finished faster than I thought. I did the whole loop but
it certainly felt like more climbing than I remember. Oh well. The
downhills were fun even though I stopped more times than I can remember
for uphill riders. I passed two groups of hikers whom I stopped to chat
with and remind them of the odd/even biker/hiker weekends. They were
not aware of this having started at Mayhem Gulch which still has no
sign. I really didn't care that they were on the trail, I just wanted
to warn them that riders will be flying down the trail not expecting
hikers. They thanked me and went back down.
I handed out two packs of Emergen-C to two different bonking riders. As
for me, I was breathing well again. It turns out that besides my normal
exercise induced asthma, I had a low grade infection in my lungs last
week. I didn't realize I was sick until I started to get a fever
blister. I always seem to get them when I am sick with no real signs.
A few antibiotics later and I am good to go! No pics because I was
trying to travel light today. I did the 17 mile loop in about 2.5
hours. Not a bad pace for me.
