slow triathlete said:Anyone know of any stories of young cyclist being pressured to dope, not to just make it but actual executives of teams or clubs?
I am specifically interested in EPO cases.
Also if you know of these cases how do the young riders get away with not testing positive for EPO now that there is a test protocol?
thanks
Brian
The motivations to cheat are endless. In any case, clean athletes are doomed in pro sports.
90% of doping is NOT tested for. So passing a $250 urine test is very, very easy. That explains why most dopers are NEVER caught and are very surprised if they ever are caught. (Hamilton, Landis, Jones, Gatlin)
If you are a famous endorsed athlete---tests are easily fixed as well. (Armstrong, Jones, Hamilton, Delgado all had tests reversed)
For unimportant athletes:
EPO is very tricky to detect. Daily micro dosing is impossible to detect. Many research anti-anemia drugs are undetectable too. (Black market)
Whilst testosterone and female hormones are detectable---the USADA & WADA labs do NOT test for them---UNLESS the T/E ratio is way out beyond 4:1 (1:1 = normal) That protects 99.999% of the cheats.
hGH, IGF, insulin and blood transfusions all remain undetectable.
Many corticosteroids are undetectable.
Cow blood packed tranfusions are undetectable.
If you want to dope---you certainly can without much worry of being caught.
Just don't pull a Roid Rage homicide like OJ Simpson, Chris Benoit or Mariet Ford.
