I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with having to urinate during a long (100mile) race. My problem is that I drink water in the morning and soon after the start of the race I'm ready to empty the tank. If my race starts at 10:00, what should my fluid consumption consist of that morning to best avoid this situation? How long does it take fluids to cycle through your body? Thanks.

If you stay with the group its likely that there will be a "nature break" some time before the race really heats up. If you are not with the group then you don't have to worry about it. At least that's the way it works with the women.... And you guys can do the pee off the bike thing that we can't.
I wouldn't change my hydration routine if I were you. Why risk getting dehydrated during the race. -

The race it most likely to heat up right out of the gates, at least it has in the last 3 years editions. There's some climbs in the first 15 miles before it descends and flattens out, so no break for at least the first half. The reason I'm concerned about it is because the last race I did (85 miles) there was no break and I suffered for the last half holding it. I'm no good at peeing off the bike. I was just wondering if someone had a tried and true technique for prerace hydration-like the perfect balance. -

Very funny. -
this is some good advice:
http://santaclarasporting.com/pdf/us-soccer-hydration.pdf
as to how to not have to urinate that much,
just stay hydrated as much as possible all the time,
and if you are in good enough health,
use cold water in showers,
don't eat junk food,
don't eat a large breakfast the day of the ride,
and, Especially, make sure the water you drink on the day of the ride is NOT some exercise drink such as Cytomax or Gatorade
Something such as a PowerBar is much more balanced from the perspective of minerals, carbohydrates, amino acids, and complex carbohydrates you would "Usually" be consuming.Japheth

This seemed like obvious so I didn't respond at first, but have you tried peeing right before the start of your race? If you're "ready to empty the tank" "soon after the start", I think you can go right before the start as well. Once you start working at high intensity (i.e. racing), your bladder won't get filled up as fast as it would be when you're at rest, so hopefully you won't feel the nature's call before the finish.
Good luck,
Ken
