I'm thinking of getting one of those gimmicks for my mom. I took her
out on my tandem last weekend, her first time ever on two wheels. She
had a blast, but at 61, you can't really tell her that she's likely to
fall and get scraped up a couple times before she understands how to
ride a 2 wheeler.

With that said, the one time I rode a trike was pretty scary. They
don't handle even slight surface unevenness well.

They are made for neighborhood jaunts, and trips to the grocery
store, which is what we use ours for. Stirring is hairy too, just do it
slowly.
