I had a strange experience on my commute home this evening.
About half way home I come to a t-junction onto a major road where vehicles normally wait in two rows, one to turn right an the other to turn left, and as the major road is busy this can involve a fair wait at rush hour to turn right.
I was in the traffic stream waiting to turn right and when it came to my turn to be at the front of the queue to turn I was aware of a car on my *left* which had straddled itself across both lanes with it's *right* indicator flashing and was trying to "push" out into the major road the same way I was going.
The problem I could see is that when a gap comes this "pushy" motorist would effectively be trying to "undertake" me on the turn, which could be well dodgy, so I ended up having to let him go in front of me, especially as he was blocking the left lane, and holding that whole lane up as well, just so he did not have to suffer the indignity of waiting behind an "inferior" cyclist.

That seems like perfectly normal motorist behaviour to me.

Typical motorist: he thinks it's some kind of competition and your [censored] shrivels if you're not at the front of the traffic queue. The only solution is to chill. Let the twunt f**k off and take his tiny mind with him, leaving the bit of road you are using that bit safer.
This works when driving as well. Repeat the mantra: "It is not a race, my [censored] will not shrivel if I am not in front." It makes the whole process much more pleasurable and not significantly slower, IME.

Take care out there folks.

I look for and expect motorists to cut me off and try to beat me at red lights and stop signs. It really bothers me though when it is am officer of the law that does it and should now cycling laws. And yes this has happened to me. Trust only yourself and expect your fellow man to try to do you in on every turn and when he is courteous and considerate it a bonus.

My [censored] couldn't _possibly_ shrivel with all the spam I keep getting 😉 [1]
I've just cycled home this afternoon after work (Stevenage 2 Chesham short route ~32 miles). I can tell you that the cold easterly has induced a bit of shrivelling. Niv.

This thread and the one about West Highland spam reminds of an old joke.
How do you tell a Scotman's clan?
Put your hand up his kilt and if it's a quarterpounder he's a McDonald's ___ Michael MacClancy
American tourist "What's worn under the kilt?" Highlander "Put your hand under and find out." Tourist "My, that's gruesome." Highlander"Put it under again, it's grew some more." -- Mark

Yeah, it's like I keep getting (in amongst the male oriented ones) offers of potions and lotions to enlarge my breasts!!...I do however wonder that if I took the pills that offer me an extra 3" of todger in 3 months for 2 years, would I end up with one that's 24" longer than it is now ??...anyone want to sponsor me to find out ?? ;-~) Dave (nobreasts)

I find these threads very soothing. So it's not just me that gets threatened with gbh by negligent incompetent idiots, then. And when you get angry about it you will be labelled 'lycra lout'. I made the mistake of going out at school run time the other day and had two incidents of the overtaking drawing level and turning left kind.Since I keep well out from the kerb usually they were deliberately aiming to push me aside with the car. How much sympathy do you think I get from bystanders who see a 6ft2 bloke shouting at a local mum with kids in the car?
I wish there was more we could do, but discussing it online does help one's state of mind. TerryJ
