Which Chain?

It's the cassette that makes the difference. Disclaimer: you should use either all 10 speed or all 9
speed for guaranteed performance.

I have been spending some time on the net researching this question, and came across this quote on the chains from the Shimano DA website:

"The rollers are the same width as 9-speed, insuring the important strength and durability . . . Weight reduction and the narrower 10-speed profile were achieved by minimizing the contour of the side plates."

Does this mean that the space inside the chain for the cogs is the same as for 9 speed? My main concern with using a 10 speed cassette was that it would not fit on the 9 speed cogs well, but if I interpret the quote correctly, then that will not be a problem.

If my assumption is correct, is the narrower chain likely to cause any other problems with a 9 speed cassette I haven't mentioned or thought of?

Sorry, the sentence should have said "My main concern with using a 10 speed *CHAIN* was that it would not fit on the 9 speed cogs well".
