Trailer security?

How about using it as a trolley? Make a handle with a foot on it to
fit in the unused part of the Y. Put a nice big box on it and trundle
up and down the aisles to your heart's content.. Carry Freedom do a
handle, but without a foot to keep the trailer level when you let go
of it.

Won't work at Makro, of course, where (at least at my local branch) they
don't let you take in anything bigger than a handbag...

I have a Y-Frame (small) and I have to admit I haven't bothered fretting
about the trailer arm. While it is detachable, it's not obviously so to
the passing chav, and has no resale value for the professional thief. Do
you think it's likely?

This is easy: Just replace the pin with a bolt. I tried to find a
padlock as a replacement for the pin at the hitch. So far without
success. This would secure the trailer to the bike. Provided you do not
use a quick release for the rear wheel ;-)

I would not bother too much about it. Just use a cable to lock the load
bed to the bike. Without a grandmother in a wheelchair a potential
thief won't know how to detach the wheels. These people a plain stupid.

I tried this only once. The Y-Frame Large does not pass through the
checkout at my local supermarket which makes the thing impractical. I
wonder how they handle wheelchairs.

Most, perhaps all (there might be a legal requirement) UK supermarkets
have one or more wide checkouts specifically for wheelchair use.

the trailer bed, and through the wheels (detached),

Why not just use a longer cable and leave the wheels attached? You
should be able to thread it so the wheels/axles can't be removed.

Replace the sprung shaft pins with pins drilled to take a small padlock?

Actually that is how I managed to get out. But having to ask the staff
to open that one which was closed at the time was to much of hazzle for
me.
