Then they would ask people what would the US strategy be to invade Iran. they would show them a map and ask people where the attack would start , whether to use airplanes, ships, infantry etc. Of course, all the countries had been mislabeled. Iran was Australia. So, people would point to Australia and say "here is Iran", and we should come from these areas with planes ships, etc.

This sort of thing extends to virtually all opinion polls.
X% of the respondents think this or that. The poll results, if it's in the political realm, becomes an actual news item for a time (until the next poll), and politicians change their positions based on them.
Although the poll takers will tell you the results are good to plus/minus 2% or whatever, they never really tell you what percent of the respondents where actually knowledgeable enough on the issue to make any sort of informed decision!

At least the Gipper was a good actor and you can explain his part that way. Dubya can only be explained by the dumbing down of the populace (i.e. they can relate to a guy who only got "C" grades in school and spent most of his time partying until age 45).

The whole idea of voting for politicians on personality or even character is stupid. How about because the alternatives presented were dreadful. Bush actually graduated with a masters degree and Al Gore never really graduated from anything past high school. Looking at their respective grades at Yale, Bush outpointed Kerry also.
Face it the kid saying things like "I understand it, but I think you need to explain it more for the others" is really NOT the smartest guy in the room.
