Great! I've been equally pleased that a couple of gates have been
removed on one greenway I use on my commute.

I'm glad I mentioned it. I'm getting a lovely warm feeling from all the
praise.

My motives have been, of course, entirely selfish.

6 months ago I couldn't ride all the way to work without dismounting
(unless I used a longer and less pleasant route). Now I can.

A week ago I couldn't go on a family outing to Bath without having to
either detach the trailer or struggle with gates. Now I can.

It should now be possible to ride the entire length of the Bath-Bristol
path without having any difficulty with barriers, although there's still
a railway crossing at Bitton Station that is fairly challenging with a
trailer. There has been talk of improving it.

I believe there are still problematic barriers at some of the side
access points towards the Bristol end, but I seldom head in that
direction and I tend not to get involved in campaigning in the Bristol
LA area.

FWIW I have a RADAR key for "proper" medical reasons; however, there are
no forms to fill in or special places to go to get one. I bought both
of mine from tourist info place - tell them you have a colostomy in the
unlikely event they question it.

While not as good a Danny's solution - getting rid of the barriers - it
at least gives you a way of completing your journey if you meet one.

P.S. If you do get a key for cycling purposes *please* don't get
tempted into using it on disabled loos: that is where someone's need may
really be greater than yours!

Rob managed to get one taken off our local cycle path, but the second
one (which makes that bit impassable for trikes) is owned by British
Waterways, who remain obdurate.
