  1. I seem to remember (a few years ago) someone saying that a suitable replacement battery for the
Smart Dual Halogens could be obtained from Maplins. I thought they even quoted a part number.

I’ve googled around but cannot find the thread.

Anyone know if a decent replacement is available?

My lights are in their 4th year now, and I’m sure they used to hold their charge longer.
I’m also sure that they used to be brighter. Or am I just suffering in the lumens war?

We do all get used to the brightness of our lights 🙁

Spare batteries should be availalbe from a Smart dealer. Mind the whole thing can be got for 35 quid
    mail order......

If they are sealed lead acids they are certainly available from Maplins minus any fancy container
yours may presently be in. Maplins own brand 4 ah are about 6 squid but if you make your own
mounting container and have a suitable charger bigger ones are available. They also sell Yuasa SLAs
in the same sizes but at greater cost.

The older/cheaper smarts used a sealed lead acid battery mounted in a bag under the top tube. Those
can certainly be replaced via Maplins (and indeed with one of greater capacity if you want).

The newer Smarts use quite a nice bottle change mounted NiCad battery.

If they are that old they should be the old Yuasa sealed lead acid jobbies, open up the bag and take
it out, you should be able to search for the Yuasa model number on maplins, or at least a match for
    the voltage and capacity.

Alternatively I could get off my [censored] and go look myself if I was feeling that helpful, but it's
quite comfy lying here on the living room carpet.

Yep, thats right, Maplin do these batteries, for a bargain price of around £6. See:
    tinyurl.comtyr1

I got one of these a couple of years ago, and it is exactly the same as the one supplied with the
lights. If the batteries are anything like motorbike batteries, then a year is a good life span,
though I suppose there isnt really much comparison, as the motorbike batteries have a much harder
working life. Still, for £6, you could afford to buy one every year. Alan.
