I think there's talk of making these a legal requirement for fast
silent fuel cell bikes like the Env if they ever get it into
production - http://www.envbike.com/ If they do I hope they can come
up with a less comical solution than this!

A holly leaf in the mudguard made more of a purr and didn't always
fall out when you stopped.

Failing that, stiff card thoroughly sellotaped to a stay so that the
impact with the spokes didn't push it out of the way.

What you really wanted was one of those coasterbrakes with a bit of
smooth barrel protruding beyond the LH flange. You could wrap a piece of
string around it connected to the bottom of a large tincan.
I had to make do with a clothespeg clamped to a shoeshine tin with a
stout rubber band
