  1. i have been reading these posts for some time now. but just in this time i decide to make a user name. so i guess its official hello^^ i have a short story about today which is embarrassing. i will share it^

when i am cycling, i always am listening with my music very loud, specialially when i am going up the hills so i can go faster ^^ (i think this is normal, but i dont know). also on this day i go without a helmet, because it was not its in place and i wasn't wanting to look. ( bad idea, i know) also the jersey i had been wearing has a small rip. so i was looking alittle like a punk or hooligan or something. oh well, was not trying to impress anyone^^

anyway, somewhen earlyer in this day i was riding up on the mountian. as I was going up, I have passed a group with 5 or something riders. i am not sure if they have said something to me, but i think they make a hello or something. i was not feeling like a social person at this time so i drive up the hill alittle faster to escape them.

so when i am getting to the top of my climb i go into a small store for some rest and also to buy one candy bar and some sport drinks. the very same time i am walking out of this store, they have been arriving. i smile with them and wave hello. they are all looking like older gentlemen. they are all looking very nice, and with nice bicycles.

they began talking with me. one was saying that he heard my music playing on the way up, and this is unsafe (i think he is probably right), and then another was saying i should wear my helmet(naturly, i know).

but at first i have not understanded what they are saying so i just talk back, "yes, its a nice day out" or osmething and walk away.

10 seconds later i figure out they are giving me safety help and i feel very rude about not thanking them or something and just walking away. so i look back in an attempt to wave or something to gain freindlyness with them. my action is alittle awkward though. 🙄

they are still looking at me when i am getting on my bicycle so i become very nervous and fall on to the ground when coming into my pedals:eek:. which is the first time i can remember since a maybe a while ago that i have done this

very embarrasing expirence^^ just thought i would share.

sorry, my english is not so great

  2. I was very careful to read all about the "rules" or ettiquette of cycling, I still haven't ridden in a group because I can't find one that rides when I do. But I read all about how not be a safety hazzard in a pack.

  3. So... Put your helmet on! 😄

  4. - what ? you didn't hose them with your 9mm ?

    .

  5. It's good that you can laugh at yourself. Welcome to the forum and don't worry about your English.

who has said that i didn't? but shhh, i don't want the police to know it was me^^

  8. Humility is good and don't worry about your English skills. Most people from New York have the same affliction. 😄

  9. Just the other day I came to a stop and could not get my shoe unclipped from the pedal. I hit the ground like a pile of bricks, luckly only a few passing cars saw what happened.

A few years ago I was trying to jump a curb on my MTB. This was in the middle of the day in Grand Haven Michigan, a resort town, and there were hundreds of people milling around getting ice cream, etc... Anyway, I did not make the curb and I went headfirst over my handlebars onto the grass next to the road. There were no shortage of people that day...I never felt so stupid in all my life.

I was also snow skiing a few years ago and took a header into the snow after a jump right under a lift. I actually blacked out for a second, but right before I went out, I heard someone on the lift say "Did you see that guy!!!"

  10. I've had some embarrassing things happen to me, like when a squirral jumps out and you almost run it over and you scream at it and look like an idiot dodging it, and then you feel all dumb, I hate that

Cycler6n, I am right there with ya. Why is it the squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks always wait until the last second to dart out in front of you and then stop and run the other way. It happened to me the other day and I grabbed the breaks so hard I almost crashed. I think I did run over its tail. The people coming the other way looked at me like I was a freak or something.

yeah, they act like were trespassing in their territory, we are sort of:p

  13. I actually crashed running over my own water bottle that dropped after I thought I'd replaced it in its cage. Dropped on the road and I rode right over it and into a ditch.!

  14. At age 12 I learned the importance of looking where you are going rather than where you have been. I was with a freind riding through the back yards in the neighborhood and crashed into a house:eek: . It was a big target, how could I miss? Messed up my teeth and nose a little, and bent the steerer tube of my dime store bike so there wasn't much loss there. My family has never let me live it down. Whenever I leave to go on a ride I am told "Watch out for the houses."😠

  15. Hahaha you're like the Larry David of cycling. Funny!

Ha @! these are good.. I like the story my wife tells -- with her new bike and shorts ,jersey, clipless pedals, & shoes acting all cool with her new stuff. Riding with her friend who still had her old 80's steel bike and cuttoffs--stopping at a stop sign and forgetting she had herself clipped in, and once stopped, just ---clunk -- fell over . Luckily not hurt , fell over in the grass - but like a cartoon. Lay there stuck and needed help to get up. I think I hear that story a lot from people just getting used to clipless pedals, It's just funny when I see it in my mind and knowing no one was hurt (only pride).. :o
You have to know my wife too she is usually very composed and actually pretty athletic.
My most embarrasing moment on a bike isn't fit to tell that explicitly in public. OK I will anyhow. It had to do with riding in a group and going down hill pretty fast and over some bumps/railroad tracks, we were all up off the seat but in the drops in that aerodynamic/prone position when all that bumping around seemed to jossle loose a large bubble of methane from my innards that just happened to shoot back to the rider's nose behind me. I think I peed my pants laughing at his expense and almost crashed while he was cussing me out -but I was young and liked crass sophomoric humour 😄 😎 maybe I'm embarrassed now. I am not sure if I got any extra speed out of it.

    George

  17. tonight i was riding really slow and looked down for maybe 10 seconds to see my speed looked up and bam! oops a parked car and to think the only damage, i bent my crank more.
