what brand headlight?

Everything is relative. How much is not a lot? less than 100AUD? Less than 200AUD?

If I were to spend less than 100AUD I'd look at some sort of 1W LED light.

I haven't looked at the 1watt range of lights so I am not aware of what's out there. If you are interested in spending more then I put a list of high powered leds in a thread earlier called "List of High Power LED lights & manufacturers - Luxeon, Cree etc".

AFAIK LEDs have become the most efficient light form and late last year became more efficeint than HID. I'm not an expert so I stand to be corrected on this. I think HID's run up to about 80 lumens per watt whereas LEDs are higher, getting close to 100 lumens/watt if they haven't already exceded that (if marketing blurb is to be believed).

Bike specific lights tend to be a little pricey. If you're not to fussy some stuff from here especially the cree stuff on a bike mount is quite reasonable.

I use a Light & Motion Solo. I got it on sale for around $80 (retail is around 130, I think) and it is quite bright, versatile, and easy to use.

I use a Blackburn Quadrant 3.0 combo. Total cost was $25.00 from Amazon about 6 months ago. The tail light is blindingly bright & the head light is 4 LED; 2 spotlights & 2 floodlights. I'm VERY pleased with them.

I use Fluid mini lights (around $20 for 2).
They are a single LED light that clips around anything. I have 2 white on the handlebars, 2 red on my seat post.

I also have a couple of 4 red LED's (just a couple of cheapies) - one on my hydration pack (which I now also use to carry around spares etc) and 1 on my helmet

Deal extreme have some good deals.
I have a Fenix P2D-CE as a back up light which is as bright as a Dinotte 5 for a fraction of the cost.
www.batteryspace.com do a great price on HID lights.

for about $120 ex battery.

I ride early morning or evening, Im using front and rear lights by Basta, cost me $55 for the set of 2. I find them adequate
