I don't build my own wheels, but I do true them when they get out of whack. Yesterday I trued my rear wheel (built with Shimano Ultegra hub/ Mavic Open pro rim/36 spoke/3 cross both sides) and it came out good as far as truing and dish. What I did notice was that the drive side spokes seemed to have more tension than the non-drive side. I could feel it with the spoke wrench. Is this normal? Again, the dish looks right.

Room for the sprockets mean that the right side flange is closer to the centerline, so right side tension is higher than the left, norrmal.

yes, normal. it's a function of the spoke angles as they meet the rim - the greater the angle differential, the more the tension differential.
