Don't know whereabouts you are, but here in north Wiltshire there
seemed to be a special breed of Moronicus Britanicus out today, made
worse as my lunch time "pootle" was to the bike shop to leave my
trusty steed whilst they fitted a new bottom bracket, then walk home
to get steed no. 2 to return to work.

edge of london, kingston upon thames area ish.

it's handy having a fleet isn't it!

it's a rather beaten hat that i used to use for being a postie thus
would soak it, and gentrally squish it into size, so it stays on very
well, so far up to 20mph ish.

IIRC, there has been something published before which suggests that
'eccentric' headwear (was it a viking helmet? I don't _think_ I'm having the
memory equivalent of a hallucination) _does_ lead to an increase in the
space that motorists allow to cyclists.

I believe there was some debate about whether this was due to an increase in
the perceived unpredictability of the cyclist, or that it caught the
attention of the motorist better and underlined that they were negotiating
their way past a vulnerable individual rather than a just another vehicle or
piece of street furniture.
