  1. I have recently (March 29, 2007) had surgery for colorectal cancer and am back on the road (May 9) training for touring. Over the last 12 days I have gone from 25 km to 50 km in 5 km increments every other day. As I continue to increase my rides, I plan to start doing 1/2 distance spin days on the off days between my long rides.

I have cadence readout and an HRM as training tools. I am not a racer yet (too young @ 47) 😄 Any advice?

  2. So far so good 🙄
    Date - distance - ave - stops (< 5 min)
    May 9 - 25 km - 22 kph - 1
    May 11 - 31 km - 21 kph - 1
    May 13 - 35 km - 20 kph - 4
    May 15 - 42 km - 24 kph - 1
    May 17 - 47 km - 23 kph - 1
    May 19 - 51 km - 20 kph - 3
    May 20 - 23 km - 22 kph - 0
    May 21 - 56 km - 25 kph - 2
    May 22 - 27 km - 25 kph - 0
    May 23 - 64 km - 24 kph - 3
    May 24 - 32 km - 25 kph - 1
    May 25 - 71 km - 25 kph - 2

I am thinking it is time to put in rest days (no more than 10 km) to fully recover before extending my rides much further. My plan of the moment is to ride long, ride a half distance, then a rest day. My target is to comfortably cycle a century (160 km) by mid July. 😄

Any and all advice is more than appreciated.

  3. Congradulations on your come back I shouldn't give you advice though I think you might be doing better than me.:o Seven days in a row.😎

  4. Congratulations and welcome back to our two wheeled world. It sounds as if you have your training all worked out well. I agree with you that you should put at least one day of rest into your week.
