Is he a Liberal Democrat? If so (and the chances are he is), he'll
prolly have signed it because it was proposed by his boss; nearly all of
the signers are LibDems.
I can't help thinking that the EDM might do better if somebody other
than Ming Campbell had proposed it. My MP is as faithful a Blairite as
it's possible to imagine: I'll be interested to see if he's prepared to
put his name next to a bunch of LibDems and Gorgeous George. ;-)
You're also fighting the CTC who say to not ask your MP to sign it if
they aren't a LibDem
"But please note: MPs of other parties cannot sign this type of EDM
without the blessing of their party leaderships - so please do not ask
MPs other than LibDem members to sign it!"
Not counting Gorgeous George, currently 3 out of 23 are mainstream
party, non LibDem.
I suspect Lynne Jones signs nearly everything - assuming they are
numbered in order - and it looks like it looking at her voting record
- she's signed 929 of 1509. Bob Spink is similar but Edward Vaizey
looks more discriminating.
If your MP is at the top of the list of EDMs signed its probably worth
targetting them. I did email my MP but she's one of the 100 or so who
have signed no EDMs so I'm not hopeful.
(Vaizey is 156th in the number of EDMs signed so there's probably at
least 100 MPs who could be convinced to sign this.)
I shall be writing to the CTC this weekend to tell them not to renew
my membership in June. What with them screwing up the opportunity in
Matt Seaton's Guardian piece on 10th May because their website wasn't
up to date I'm "well [censored] at them".
Tim.
