If proof was required that DiLuca does not even himself consider to be a GC
contender, it is his eagerness to grab the pink this early (witness his
antics at the TTT finish). His teammates will be cooked by the time the real
action starts.

he's said he's only too happy to have someone else grab it... who wants
it for the tour? what a burden!

A pink jersey could be a bit of burden in some places. Imagine if they
held the giro in one of your southern redneck states.

It would probably go off easier than it would in BFN, Saskatchewan.
In the South (and here in Utah), they already think we're all [censored]
anyway, so adding a pink jersey would be no big deal ... It's just
additional confirmation.

Something similar happened to my brother in Florida a long time ago.
He was riding along, and without warning, his spidey sense kicked in
and he swerved and ducked to see an axe handle being swung from a
passing car just miss his head. He was near his house, dropped the
bike, grabbed his shotgun, got in his truck and took off after the
guys. He caught up to the guys, high speed chase, ending in a dead
end street where he knew he'd get them. The donut-munching cop at the
end of the dead end street had other ideas. The "alleged" perps
jumped out of their car and ran to the cop, who approached my brother
with gun drawn. Explanations, perp denials, ending with, "What are
you doing with an axe handle in your car and how did this guy know
about it?" Book 'em, Dano.
