They're in the H&S queue along with tree roots, loose rocks, slippery chalk
(a Chilterns favourite) and so on!

I wonder if there's a simple solution to the additional peril caused
by pine cones dropping from above onto one's... ok, I'll shut up
now! ;o)

I saw a photo in an MTB mag a while ago of a section of singletrack
(sorry, bridleway!) where all the roots appeared to have some sort of
white fungus. It turned out they had been painted white because of a
running event passing that way...

and muddy puddles over grown with vegetation. 🙂
ANECDOTE :- I was out with the boys on a piece of "single track" I went
one way around a piece of vegetation, eldest son went the other way,
youngest son decided to ride straight through, the inevitable happened.
The vegetation was covering a muddy puddle, he struck a root immersed
in the puddle and he fell off. He was lying there face down and
quivering I thought "he has struck his head on a stone or something and
is fitting what the **** will I do" (no mobile 'phone with me).
He wasn't fitting, he was laughing and was covered in mud (his mother
went ballistic when she saw him) got him to stop giggling, back on his
bike and continued down the track. The WTF will I do thought only
lasted 3 maybe 5 seconds but I was getting cold sweats all that day and
even today I still feel quite wary when I think of that incident
