In an attempt to improve my fitness I have decided to have a go with the sporting group of the local cycling club tomorrow morning. This will involve riding at an average speed of at least 16 mph for around 40-50 miles. No problem for people on here but normally I ride with the intermediates which go at around 14-15 mph for between 30-40 miles so it is a step up from what I am used too. I also wonder what the reaction is going to be when I turn up on the folding bike given that they tend to ride expensive carbon fibre super fast super light things.
I shall take some maps with me so that when I get dropped I will be able to find my way home :-)
Turning up with maps and a folding is your best ploy. At the start I reckon the thoughts will range from "yeah whatever lets drop this guy" to "ah bless"
At the finish, after you finish before a few of them, it'll be "that Adam guy, he's alright he is" and "he did it on a folder!".
An excuse (sorry reason) to buy another bike I think. As someone here has said before, the correct number of bikes is n+1 where n is the current number of owned bikes.

Likewise. I was planning to go out with the Ribble Valley CRC over the summer and then they changed the kick off time to 9 am from 10. This kind of knackers up my plans to have a lie in at any point over the weekend.
I could do with finding a bunch of cyclists who fancy a reasonably energetic afternoon ride so that my family don't think I'm abandoning them just as the football season crawls to a long-awaited end.
Cheers, Luke

Well I made it. Not nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be, but I think that was because there were a few of us from the intermediates that had decided to move up a group, so the distance was somewhat less than normal and much flatter. We covered 45 miles at around 16.5 mph average. The sports energy drink and packet of Jaffa cakes at the half way point helped supply the energy for the journey home.
It is a lot easier to keep the speed up riding in a group compared to riding solo.
Next week is a more normal ride - 60 miles including Dichling Beacon.

well done i haven't even got round to riding with a club, riding on the road for pleasure is very new to me, before it would be just hard bits between the squishy bits.
