without that sign it's possible that a cyclist might not realise that

sign and continue in a straight line, there's another sign warning them
to give way before falling off the kerb into the road.

No, someone put two posts into the facility. The first sign tells you
to go to the left of the post. The second sign tells you to give way to
the stationary post, and not cycle into it.

Very clever are these sign people. Just think how stupid you would look
if after picking yourself up from hitting the first post, you then
cycled into the second.

Why didn't they put the signs in the middle of the road instead? Anyway
there won't be anyone to complain to about it in Wakefield, as the
council recently decided to dissolve its cycle forum, much to the
consternation of its cycling officer.

I can't see the cycling officer being bothered as as far as I am aware
they got rid of him as well.

That's my point, a motorist obeying his gps will drive into the river,
despite all indications that it's a bad idea: placing the sign in the
middle of the road might deter him.

Why would you want to deter them? They'll only drive into the first
river without a sign instead and blame it on the sign posters. Better
to allow Darwinianism to take its course. Who knows they might learn a
lesson about paying attention to where they are driving and if not at
least the rest of us can have a good laugh at the numpties ;-)
