The older, lugged and brazed Terry frames are quite good, IME. Tange
#1 tubing, nice construction, good alignment.

I know several women in your wife's height range who have been very
happy with those Terry frames/bikes.

Yes, the older Terry frames were excellent. I don't think that they make
any of the mixed wheel size frames any longer.

I'm not sure, but think so. At least the company has been around and
I haven't heard anything amiss about them.

My 5'0" wife has a Terry Symmetry with a mix of parts. Tange 1 steel
frame & fork. I kitted it out with barcons, 7 speed freewheel, a third
chainring (the crank was already drilled), Ritchey pedals, and a King
Headset. It runs like a top and she likes it. I bought some front
spare tires from Terry when they were on sale just to have them. Nice
frame. I'd have no qualms buying one in decent shape second hand and
kitting it out.

Yes, both the TIG and lugged ones are pretty nice. The only thing to
be wary of is availability of 24" tires appropriate for the kind of
riding she wants to do. Selection there is pretty miserable really.

54cm top tube? The Trek WSD bikes with 650C wheels have shorter top
tubes than 54cm. I suspect many of the smaller frames with 650C
wheels have shorter top tubes than 54cm. If the person is 5'1", then
a 650C wheel bike would be far better than a 700C wheel bike.

My daughter rides one of the newer TIG welded ones (a Symmetry
model). She loves it, and was never really comfortable on a bike
until she got this one. I'd recommend it.
