You never know what you'll find in Lidl. 🙂 Mostly a lot of tat,
probably but I've read a few threads on here about the bike stuff they
have and lo and behold I found a really good wired cycle computer for
£3.99. Excellent instructions and seems to be working fine.

My cycle shoes and cleats are still working but there's a few problems with
them now (bolt heads proud of cleat so they're badly pitted from walking on
tarmac and one of the bolts keeps coming loose). Still, can't complain for
the price.

This one is branded "Bikemate". The instructions say that it goes onto
standby after 15 minutes (just displays the time). I've just spun the
wheel and it started up again. So far so good. Will test it on the
commute to work tomorrow.

There were a couple of reports on this group about the computer needing to
be reset. Not sure whether they meant manually restarted after you've
stopped (like naked_) or whether they went back to the 'enter wheel size'
type screen.

I spent the last of my beer money on one anyway - the price/features combo
was too good to miss (and the ability to turn off the features you don't
want is genius).

The wires really sort out all those nasty radio problems. Great

had cateye and other mainstream brands in the past and found them total
garbage, the bikemate one from aldi I've been running for a few of years
has been perfect.

A friend and I have great fun with heart rate monitors interfering with each
other. A few times the alarm bells have gone nuts and HRs of ~280 recorded
lol. Never had problems with wireless computers, but then i switched to a
GPS with bar mount soon after trying one.

I've been using a Cateye "Cordless 2" for years and it works pretty
much perfectly - never had any interference problems even when taking
the bike on the train. The only problem I've had is that with an
oldish battery in the sensor/transmitter it wouldn't work in
temperatures of minus 5ish back in February. But then neither would my
legs so fair's fair...

One of the problems with the VDO wireless one I mentioned was the
maximum range from the sender was just less than the distance from the
sender to the receiver. So it was no damn good on my hybrid but on a
racing bike might have been ok.

They came in last Thursday and at 3.99 they probably all went very quickly
too. Both the stores I visited are quite small and had them (I got one for
my daughter), but was looking to try a pair of the glasses but neither store
had them on Thursday.

I've three Cateye Wireless 7s, two 7 years old, and one four years old.
No problems at all other than normal battery replacements.

I don't know if there's much consistency. There are at least Lidls in
Nottingham. One said "Oooh, we sold out of those 3 weeks ago. The
other branch had quite a few."
