It might be worth people asking their MP to ask the Driving
Standards Agency whether they were lobbied to revise the wording and
if so who lobbied them, or whether this change was something they
came up with all on their own.

Not at all. A Freedom of Information request is any request for
information from a public body. It does not even have to identify
itself as an FoI request to be one. So simply write or e-mail and ask
them for the information you want - copies of any inter-governmental and
internal communications and meeting minutes related to the wording of
that part of the draft Highway Code. Identify it as an FoI request if
you wish. They should then provide you with the information within 20
days. Simple really.

When you get them please share them here.

Wrote to mine (Jim McGovern, Lab) and yesterday got a pretty solid
reply, recalling my original letter on the subject the first time
around. He's writing to Dr. Ladyman seeking to clarify why so many
people have been ignored, and the overall tone comes over as not too
impressed with what's been done.

I wrote to my MP on 23/04 2007. The response I got from labour MP Minister
Caroline Flint is very similar to the last time I wrote.But then she is a
minister and can't be expected to take any notice if insignificant people like
me!!!! However I did get a formal response, fairly promptly, which is a bit
better than nothing. Here is her reply

"Your email regarding the Highway Code is receiving attention. Please note
that I receive a very large number of emails, letters and calls, which are
dealt with in order of urgency and importance. If you do not receive a written
reply in due course, please ring my office on 01302 366778.

That was the sum total of the reply. No heading or signature block and just
the bare paragraph.It is the bulk standard reply. I may resubmit it by post to
see if a bulk of paper pages makes any difference.

In other words "I am far too busy and not interested and since you are
unlikely to receive any attention in the short term, you can try again and
speak to the local office who will probably have no idea what you are talking
about.

Sorry if I appear to be a bit "grumpy old fart" but then -- I am. My opinions
of politicians, of any colour -- red blue or yellow - do not rate very high
in order of priority.

Perhaps, after the next election, when she is no longer a member of the
government then she might have more time to consider such submissions as mine.

If she is your MP then do write to her about this Draft Highway Code fiasco!

Could be a lot in that. My MP is just a backbencher, and even when we
don't agree he appears to take considerable care and effort in following
up my letters to him.

It is true that one tends to just get smug answers from one's MP if
they are a minister, while if they are not, especially if they are
not in the ruling political party, one will get more considered
replies.

Having said that, I have not yet seen a reply from my MP to my
e-mail on this Highway Code nonsense, despite it being several days
old. He is not a minister, nor even in the ruling Westminster
political party. No doubt this is because there is an election
coming up and all the party politicians are busy knocking on doors.

Sounds like it's a quick "just to confirm we've received your letter and a
