Shimano Brake Calipers Compared?

How do Shimano Exage Motion brake calipers (1990s)compare to Shimano
Dura Ace brake calipers from the year before Shimano introduced the
Aero Dura Ace brake levers (circa 1980s) in terms of stiffness and

FWIW the Dura Ace brake calipers I am inquiring about were not from
the old pantographed Dura Ace EX series but were from the Indexed Dura
Ace Grouppo that came out later.

They're both fine for normal use when well lubed and adjusted, but if
you're putting them on a tandem I'd go for the Dura-Ace.

The DA calipers your are referring to are BR-7400? If so, those are
very, very nice single pivot brakes. If you like the feel of single
pivot calipers (as I do), those calipers themselves are difficult to
improve upon. (Improvements *may* come from levers, cables, cable
housings, shoes, etc.)

Are the Exage Motion calipers single or dual pivot?

DA 7400 are essentially a Campagnolo Record prettified, even the small
parts interchange and they are cold forged. An A450 caliper has a
completely different stepped-thread centerbolt design, like a Z brake
with polish, and is much cheaper. A good value but not a 'pro' caliper.

Sorry but I do not know the model number of the Dura Ace calipers.
They were single pivot though. The Exage Motion calipers I have are
single pivot.
