All and any advice gratefully received before I spend what little dosh I have-Previous experience of Halfords,(them cocking up the fitting of an in car mobile phone), not terribly good. The Giant Rock is on sale at Wilco, not Halfords and is also a special offer.

The prices in Halfords are about the best around for purchasing a bike. However, don't let the so called mechanics touch your bike 😄 you will not be impressed.

Thanks RRSODL, that confirms my suspicions about the Halfords 'mechanics'.
Just wondered if the SUS 500 is a good buy compared to the Giant Rock.
The Giant bike is a hard tailer,(see, I'm getting the terminology already), and an aluminium frame I think, whereas the Halfords superspecial has front and rear suspension,(presumably useful for a fat [censored] like me), a steel frame and also has v brakes like the Giant.Unfortunately the Rock is ,(even at discounted price), 60 GB £ more and I'm not exactly flush with cash-so I was not sure what to do as both bikes are only on special offer for 'a few weeks'.

My racing bike is from Halfords and I've never had any problems with it. I know it's different from a mountain bike, but figured I'd comment on it.

Not sure if you could stretch to the Giant but there's where I'll be putting my money. Why - 1. alloy frame not prone to rust and much lighter. 2 Alloy rims same reasons. 3 No rear suspension, no bounce when peddeling especially if you're a fat [censored]😉 ......like me. Lastly if you decide not to keep the bike its going to be easier to sell the Giant (rust free).
