  1. Hey...as you can probably tell by my username, i'm a runner, but recently after having a plummet in my running and reading some articles by runner's world, I'm thinking about taking up cycling on the side. I have no idea where to start and I would really appreciate any tips or advice on:

    - best bikes for begginners
    - training advice
    - accessories/equipment
    - do's and don'ts of cycling
    - common cycling jargon
    - why we have to wear spcl shoes for cycling and why do you need cleats?

    Thanks!!

What kind of riding are you interested in taking up? Road? Mountain?Recreational bike path?

Bike path can be for families or just for light to moderate excercise. A flat bar fitness bike or a fat tire cruiser would be the best option for this type of riding. Usually very safe riding. If you wanted to ride off road or on unpaved roads you would want MTB (mountain bike). Hard-tail or full-suspension. Full suspension bikes cost more and weigh more and unless you get a very good one they tend to have a bouncy ride which I don't like. For road riding a flat bar bike will work nicely especially if you have back issues. A very nice one can be had for under $600 US. An entry level road bike (drop handle bars) can be had for around $650 US and up to $10,000 US or more.

  5. The bike options have been mentioned I guess you need to consider what style/s of riding you want to get into. probably start with recreation/sport entry level.
Dual suspension and Road Race bike are total opposites if you are after something in between a hardtail MTB or a Flatbar hybrid may be the way to go for bike paths, roads, and some dirt tracks. You can drop the big dollars later if you get serious about it. Make sure it is the right size/fit for you the bike shop shoud be able to help you with it. + wear a helmet!
Just grab a bike and start riding!! The rest will follow..🙂

  6. A runner that's good. It is best to switch between both to break it up. It is better on the body.
