Does anyone know where to get cheap authentic or after-market Campagnolo brake and shifter cables? I'm assuming that I can't simply use Shimano-type cables? (Apologies - a new left brifter is my first Campag bit).

any cable will work, there are many after-market brands that you can buy. Campy branded ones will be much more $$$ so just get generic brand cables.

Last time I checked you will need Campag-specific gear inners, the larger Shimano head will fit in the ergopowers in an emergency but you might have a hassle removing them in the future. Some of the aftermarket Taiwanese stainless inners have two ends marked 'S' & 'C' less than 5AUD each here in Oz , not to be confused with the std double-ended gear cable with a 3sp trigger type end.
