how easy is it to install a new fork? I'm fairly mecanically inclined and am waiting on a fork to come into my local shop for me.. I would like to save $$$ and install it myself.

Not difficult at all, I've cut and installed 7 or 8 forks, with steel, carbon and aluminium columns. The caveat however, is that the headset is integrated or if not, already press-fit onto the head tube...because if it isn't, you will need some rather pricy tools to do so. But with most of today's integrated designs, installing a fork is ridiculously easy. Just be careful when cutting to size properly the length for the column! Here's the Park Tool section on forks:

looks like it might be pricy for me... I have a STAR FANGLED NUT in my current tube... I "guess" I'll have to get them to install it for me looks like a pricey tool... :/ hopfully they dont charge much for this lol. I think i need a new fangled nut too, mines a bit rusty.
