    could someone please direct me to a good battery-powered lighting system for when I am riding in the dark?

    the last one I had was from sports authority but busted and/or waterlogged after not many uses.

    I know I shouldn't ride in the dark; however, sometimes I have to call for a ride and in the interim become a little bit invisible.

    My advice on safety equipment...spend what you have to.

    For on-road/bike path riding, or MTB/off-road riding?

    You need a lot more light for safe MTB riding than you normally will for on-road riding.

    Personal experience: I have an old Nite Rider system that uses the Ni-Cad bottle-cage battery. After 8-plus years, I'm afraid it gives me 60-90 minutes burn time at most, which means that I have to recharge it every 2-3 days. And the replacement battery is $130 US. So ...

    I have just ordered the Cateye EL510, an LED light which was listed on the page that rule62 hot-linked. My plan is to use rechargeable nickel metal hydride AA batteries with it. I can report back in a couple weeks after receiving and using it.

    I have an old Cateye red blinker for my back as well. Reflectors and reflective clothing are part of my system as well.
