spoke pull through

Shimano spoke nipples might be what you're looking for.

Just use closely fitted steel washers underneath the nipple heads if you are concerned about it. I
have done this before with steel rims to allow decent spoke tension without the rim burrs beheading
the nipples.

It seems to me that rims with extra room in the spoke bed are pretty uncommon-- a few boxy
double-walled rims like the Alex DM24 and a few very wide single-walled rims along the lines of
the Araya 7X.

14 ga and 15 ga dt nipples have the same outside diameter. What I need is a 12 ga or a 13 ga nipple
that fits a 14 ga spoke. This should make the nipple harder to round off and extend the life of the
rim with a modest weight increase. I will drill out the rim an araya vp 20. I have used washers
before but I want to try something new.

Yike! I cautiously tried "oversized nipples" on Google and got what I deserved. A hasty addition of
"spokes" trimmed much of the undoubtedly interesting material.

that speaks of oversized Shimano spoke nipples, but these may be longer for deep rims, not
thicker-bodied. Still, you might email the poster and see if he has what you want.

Don't even think of forgetting to specify that "spokes" must accompany "thick nipples" in
your search.

What you want are DT hex head nipples, made to be turned from the inside of the rim with a 5.5mm nut
driver. They can be tightened much more forcefully than regular nipples with 3mm flats. They require
that the rim tape be off in order to use them, but they still feature the usual square flats. I have
found them only in 14g threading. I believe they were originally intended for low-spoke-count wheels
with high per-spoke tension.

Note, though, that those little 3mm flats are more than enough to overtighten the spoke, if you have
adequately lubed the spoke thread and nipple seat and if your spoke wrench fits snugly.
