Handlebar Question

I think those were called "breakaway" bars, or something. I can't remember who manufactured them.
There were also clip-ons that put the hands in the same position, ie, under the bars, but those were
ruled illegal by the UCI a couple of years ago and I haven't seen them since.

Cinelli still makes their Spinaci clip-ons, which the UCI also ruled to be illegal, but the Spinacis
put the hands above the bars.

Those are called Scott Drop-In handlebars. They are hard to find nowadays, but I see them for sale
on ebay occasionally.

Zoom used to make a clipon that did this and Cane creek has a similar one that hangs drops inboard
of normal. Tom

One of my teammates has a pair. I almost never see him in the drop-in portion of the bars.

I haven't ridden the Scott bars, but I remember tales of them being way flexy.

Save the effort, run regular bars. If you need aero, go with aero bars.

Perhaps this may have been replicated on the road bike I saw several weeks ago on which the owner
had mounted a pair of mountain bike bar extensions pointed inwards...I couldn't see much point in
it, myself.

Oh, that helps a lot! . I didn't catch what he meant at first.

You're talking about Scott Drop-In bars, right? Those are still out there in LBS- we have a set -
but the leftovers seem never to be in the right size/format. 25.4/26.0 and widths. . .
